Enhancing backplane cooling

I’ve got hold of two second hand hot-swappable SATA backplanes. The previous owner had tried modifying the cooling of these units, but unfortunately he wasn’t very successful.

By default, these units have a built-in fan. The previous owner had removed them by cutting off the plastic placed in front of the fans. He had then installed new fans by gluing them to the units. I removed his fans and all off the glue.

I was going to try to attach the fans a bit differently. I started by drilling some holes in the units.

Using cable ties, it was then pretty easy securing the fans to the units.
