For a long time I’ve had a rack mountable cooling unit lying around. It turned out to be pretty nice.
Previous unfortunate events led me to buy some new servers, which now have been mounted in the rack enclosure.
I’ve got hold of two second hand hot-swappable SATA backplanes. The previous owner had tried modifying the cooling of these units, but unfortunately he wasn’t very successful.
I had a socket 1156 system running as a server. I also had such a system running as my desktop PC. Since I just recently got a new desktop PC I figured that I would use the old desktop system as a server as well.
I got some new servers incoming and I figured that it was time to get those rails mounted.
Until recently I haven’t been able to close the front door of the rack enclosure. This is no longer a problem.
Noise. Noise. Noise. Fans. Hard drives. Darn it. What to do?
For a long time I’ve been planning to get some form of air conditioning going. Installing such a system would however not be very easy. It was necessary to find an alternative solution.
